Short life, big star. No list of screen icons is complete without the smouldering presence of young James Dean seen here in famous Rebel Without a Cause pose.
Farm lad James Dean appeared in a New York production as a blackmailing Arab boy, which garnered him enough rave reviews to make a trip to Hollywood worthwhile. After a string of bit parts came his only three major roles and his untimely death.
His second major role, celebrated here, made him an icon as he played the brooding Jim Stark in Nicholas Rays 1955 film, Rebel Without a Cause. A western flick - called Giant - followed in 1956. Filming had not long finished when he set out in his Porsche Spyder and into timeless cult legend
And yes, the poster for the film Rebel Without a Cause colourised this photo with a BLUE jacket, but in real life it was indeed red, as shown here!
