Halloween Party Food & Drinks

Halloween food is one of the few times where looking a bit gross is the whole point, which makes it brilliant fun and very forgiving. You do not need to be a cook. A themed name, a colour and the right serving dish turns everyday party food into something spooky.

Easy spooky food

Serve it with drama. A cauldron of punch does the decorating for you.
  • Mummy sausage rolls. Wrap strips of pastry across shop-bought sausage rolls for bandages, add two dots for eyes.
  • Witches' fingers. Cheese straws or breadsticks with a flaked-almond fingernail.
  • Spider crackers. Crackers topped with cream cheese and pretzel or olive legs.
  • Monster cupcakes. Green icing, googly sweets and a single edible eye.
  • Blood punch. Red fruit juice or squash with a floating ice hand made in a glove mould.

Dress the table

Serving matters more than cooking. Pile sweets into cauldrons and buckets, add a scatter of themed napkins and cups, and use black or purple tablecovers so the food colours pop. A single scene setter or backdrop behind the table finishes it and gives you a ready-made photo spot. Keep a bowl of individually wrapped sweets by the door for trick-or-treaters so the party food is not raided.

Frequently asked questions

How much food should I make for a Halloween party?

For an evening party with a few sweet and savoury bites, plan around 6 to 8 small items per adult and a little less for children, plus a bowl or two of sweets to graze on. It is better to have a couple of things spare than to run short.

What drinks work for a mixed-age party?

A big bowl of themed punch that everyone can share is the easiest option, with a spirit set aside for the adults. Name it something spooky, add dry-ice style fog only if it is food safe, and it becomes part of the decoration.
