Custom Photo Cutout Guide

A custom cutout of the birthday girl, the groom or your best mate gets a bigger reaction than any shop-bought star. You send us a photo and we print it lifesize on the same sturdy board. This guide covers the photo that gets the best result and how ordering works.

The single biggest factor is the picture you upload. Get that right and the finished cutout looks brilliant.

The best photo to send

Frame the whole body, keep it sharp, and use a plain wall behind.
  • Get the whole body in. For a full lifesize cutout we need head to feet in the shot. If the feet are cut off we can only make a shoulders-up or waist-up cutout.
  • Use the highest resolution you have. A large, sharp photo prints crisply at lifesize. Small or screenshotted images can look soft when blown up.
  • Shoot straight on in good light. Even, natural light and a face pointing at the camera give the truest result. Avoid heavy shadows and strong filters.
  • A plain background helps. It makes cutting the person out cleanly much easier. A busy background behind hair can be fiddly.

How ordering works

  1. Choose your size on the custom cutout page (full lifesize, or a smaller crop).
  2. Upload your photo at checkout.
  3. Our team cuts the person out and prints them on rigid board with a fold-out easel strut, exactly like a shop-bought cutout.
  4. It arrives flat, ready to fold out and stand up in seconds.

Custom cutouts are made to order, so allow a few extra days over a standard cutout and order in good time before the big day.

Frequently asked questions

What photo resolution do I need for a custom cutout?

As large and sharp as you can manage. A photo taken on a recent phone at full quality is usually plenty. Avoid screenshots, heavily zoomed shots or images saved small, as they can look soft at lifesize.

Can you make a cutout if the feet are not in the photo?

Yes. If the photo only shows head to waist or head to knees, we make the cutout to match. For a full standing figure we need the feet in the shot.

How long does a custom cutout take?

They are printed to order, so leave a little longer than a standard cutout. Order with a few days to spare so it arrives comfortably before your event.
